Currently, the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan has been promoting a plan of agriculture and fishery industry 4.0. In this plan, the Council of Agriculture intends to add the technology of Internet of Things (IoT) in order to increase the returns. Growing or breeding, is linked to water temperature. However, the prices of water temperature sensors of many major brands on the market are found to be not transparent. After inquiry into their prices, they are far more expensive than those sold on the online shopping websites. And the installation, operation and monitoring of many products cannot be performed easily, and they need the help of professional technicians. Nevertheless, professional technicians always charge very high fees, which are shunned by farmers (fishermen) in the primary industry. Giving up installing water temperature sensors for use doesn’t allow them to get the benefit of the plan aforesaid. Since I was once a student of the Department of Electronics of a higher vocational school, I have some knowledge of electronic components. I found that the prices of water temperature sensor on the market are rather high. Besides, all these products are attached with simple specifications only , without any clear indication of the components used, thus leading to opaque pricing of the products as well as unavailability in making comparison among different brands. On the other hand, when inquiry was made into the sources of the water temperature sensors sold on online shopping websites, most of them are found to be manufactured abroad. Although their prices are relatively cheaper when compared with those of major brands, their origins always give people doubts about their safety and accuracy. People could not use them with ease because they are afraid that if the products have problems, they will have no one to turn to for help. Most of the sensors have temperature shown only, but have no function of internet connection.Fortunately, during my education at the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, I learned about many cloud databases. Then I thought that while we are reading the temperature shown on the sensor, if the temperature can be instantly shown on the user’s cell phone through Wi-Fi, the manpower cost can be greatly decreased. The contribution of this paper is that with the same function, components at lower costs can be used to make water temperature sensors, added with the functions of Wi-Fi uploading of information, cloud databases as well as temperature monitoring via mobile device.
