The presence of the ancient trees have a close relationship with Taiwanese community temples and official buildings from Japanese colonial era. They are precious cultural assets that accompanied the local residents growing up, leisure and the core of a religion. Above all, they are part of important memories to people away from home. Nonetheless as economy develops, leads to massive developments and road widening in the community; these gigantic ancient trees become the blockage to community expansion. Despite numerous trees got preserved due to their location by the cultural assets, more trees were facing to get cut down or relocate from the original location because of the community developments. The researcher felt deeply empathetic with the ancient trees’ difficult surviving environments, preceding the researcher to create “personified illustrations - ancient trees series”. Have ancient trees as the leading figures then analyzed and defined personification through literature reviews, character design method and come up with personified appearance illustrations. Fundamentally to utilized “personified illustrations- ancient trees series “physical and cyber exhibitions to reach out to people as well to recognize the ancient trees. This creative research is divided into two parts: 1. Review trees representations through personified characters design process; 2.Through character design practice to construct ancient trees illustrations, exhibit and document distinctive community ancient trees. Hopefully this experience will be continued and attract more creators to get into local cultures related illustration projects.
This creation in the illustration creation process to obtain the following results: 1. in the development of the process to complete the illustration creation. 2. It is beneficial to the association of character design.
