相較於其他的文本翻譯，幽默翻譯帶給譯者更多的挑戰。譯者不僅要翻譯原文本的內容，也需要傳遞出其中的幽默元素。譯者是否能成功翻譯出與原文相同的幽默效果成為必須考量的重點。本研究探討了美國情境喜劇「宅男行不行」中的幽默及其翻譯策略。此研究著重於文字和視覺幽默。首先，研究介紹了視聽翻譯的概念，並特別強調字幕方面。接著作者通過多模態方法探究了翻譯中的視覺幽默議題。各種笑話類型中所應用的翻譯策略與多模態概念建立起完整的分析架構。此研究分為兩個部分，第一部分著重於文字幽默，第二部分則強調於視覺幽默方面。
資料收集自「宅男行不行」中的第一季至第五季。經過深入的分析和比較，作者發現釋義與直譯是最常被使用的策略。在中文版本中，釋義的主要目的是幫助目標觀眾更好地理解原始內容，特別是當內容中含有目標觀眾不熟悉的詞彙時。將內容釋義成目標觀眾熟悉的成語或諺語可以幫助他們更順利的理解原文。
此外，在視覺幽默研究中，將近一半的案例採用直譯策略。在視覺幽默研究中，幽默主要來自於圖像的呈現，字幕雖然有助於幽默的表達，但不是主要的幽默元素。
根據研究結果，語言和文化的不可翻譯性使得譯者在翻譯幽默時面臨挑戰。

Compared to other translation texts, humor translations present more challenges to translators. Translators not only translate the source text but also convey its humorous elements. Whether the translator successfully translates the same humor effect as the source text has become crucial. This study explores the humor and its translation strategies in the American sitcom The Big Bang Theory. The study focuses on verbal and visual humor. First, the study introduces the concept of audiovisual translation with a particular emphasis on subtitling. Then, the author explores visual humor in translation through a multimodal approach. The category of translation strategies applied in various joke types and the multimodality concept establish a complete framework for the analysis. There are two parts to the case study. The first part focuses on verbal humor, while the second emphasizes visual humor.
The Big Bang Theory data was collected from season one to season five. After in-depth analysis and comparison, the author found that paraphrase and transfer are the most frequently employed strategies. In the Chinese version, the primary purpose of paraphrasing is to assist the target readers in better understanding the source content, mainly when it contains unfamiliar vocabulary. Paraphrasing the content into idiomatic expressions or proverbs familiar to the target readers can help them comprehend the source text more smoothly.
Moreover, nearly half of the instances in studies of visual humor employ a transfer strategy. In visual humor study, humor predominantly arises from the presentation of images, where subtitles, while assisting in the expression of humor, are not the primary humorous elements.
In light of the findings, linguistic and cultural untranslatability present challenges for the translator when translating humor.
