我的父親是一位消防員，幾年前退休了，不自覺多少會以父親身為消防人員為榮，大概是來自既定的印象：打火英雄，但是我對父親的消防工作卻是一無所知，只知道消防人員就是要打火救人。父親個性寡言嚴肅，且容易生氣，平時在家裡父親很少對家人講話， 父親也從沒提起他的工作。我想靠近父親，或許先從瞭解父親的工作，是個不錯的開始。於是我展開了消防隊的一段旅程，體會了消防員的生活，看見了消防體制的困境。
經過一段時間的拍攝消防隊員許志銘後，在互動之中，總會連結到我和我父親的關係，原來我最關心的還是我爸。自從國中開始了住宿生活之後，國中、高中、大學和研究所一直都住在外面，直到最近退伍後，搬回家裡住了，每天和嚴肅寡言的父親相處，只要多說些話總是被父親責備，因為父親的想法蠻偏激的，個性又孤僻，且總是隱藏自己的感情。在消防隊拍攝紀錄片待了一段時間後，我下定決心，我想藉由拍攝消防隊的紀錄片來面對我父親父親，不管好壞總是一個開始。於是，我開始去了解父親的過去與關心父親的健康。而最終，希望片子完成後給父親看，能夠表達出我的心意。其實當我們面對面時，我們不太能情感交流，但是透過影片，我可以傳達我對父親的認同和我的心聲，也表達我希望更接近父親的想法，身為兒子的我，是希望可以多和父親互動的，而不是排斥父親。
拍攝此紀錄片就是我接近父親的一個實踐，像是一個行動研究，我穿梭於父親以前的工作領域和父親退休後的家，身為消防員眷屬的我，以此影像紀錄的行動，希望可以重新建構我和父親的關係。

My father was a firefighter, who retired a few years ago. Subconsciously, I feel proud for my father as a firefighter, probably from the established impression: Fire Hero. However, I barely know about my father's firefighting job, except that a firefighter’s job is to fight against fire. Father is always serious, reticent, and easy to get angry. Usually at home he rarely spoke to the family, and never mentioned his work. I would like to get close to my father, and perhaps start to understand his work is a good start. So I started a journey of firefighters, to experience the life of a firefighter, and try to find the plight of the firefighting system.
After a period of time shooting firefighter HSU,CHIH-MING, I found that the interaction among us was always linked to the relationship between me and my father; deep in my heart, I am most concerned about my dad. I’ve been living outside during my study in middle and high schools, university and institute, until recently I finished my military serve and moved back home. Getting along with my serious father every day is not easy, as he always blame us no matter what we say and do. Because he holds pretty radical ideas with a relatively eccentric personality and always hide his feelings. After spent some time filming a documentary in the fire brigade, I decided that I want to understand my father by shooting this documentary; whether good or bad, this was always a beginning. So, I began to get familiar with my father's past and his physical condition. Ultimately, I hope when the film is completed, it can be shown to my father to express my love to him. In fact, when we are face to face, we are not able to communicate our emotions, but through the movie, I not only can convey my recognition and my voice to him, but also express my hope that I want to be closer to father. As a son, I really hope to interact more with father, rather than alienate him.
Shooting this documentary is a practical approach to understand my father. It is like an action research, shuttling my work in the field of his former job and his home life after retirement. As a son of a fireman, I hope to reconstruct the relationship between my father and I, through the action of recording images.
