生活環境的變動是不可避免也永不停止的，但一直長期地被建築專業忽視，不論設計、製造或施工，皆是為「不變」而非「改變」。當報廢時，考慮的是「廢棄」而非「回收再利用」。如此，不但改變時施工過程費時費事，噪音、振動與空氣污染影響鄰居安寧也有害工人健康，廢棄的建材無法回收再利用，更造成環境污染，並增加建材開採與製作所消耗的能源與資源以及環境危害。永續營建已是今日重要的新課題，如何滿足生活環境的自主變動並保持資源的平衡利用是本研究的主要課題，其技術關鍵在建築構造的界面。
本論文的目標是：（一）建立開放式界面的構造理論與方法，以擴大並深化開放系統營建及永續營建的範疇。（二）以理論配合實例分析，綜合出構造界面的設計原則，以供開發新構造技術、新建材或界面產品之參考。（三）發展界面構造性能之檢驗工具，作為評量開放性及永續性之技術與產品的依據。
整個理論的發展是朝兩個方向進行；一是構造界面本質的探討，包括界面的作用、內容及其內在機制。一是新課題的因應之道，包括自主的環境變動及平衡的（永續的）資源利用兩大課題，找出應具備之構造屬性。然後歸納兩者的發現以之建立分析模型，包括描述系統與評量系統兩部分。
為了檢驗分析模型的正確性，以具有代表性的案例作示範，並輔以示意分析圖且訂定評量標準。在檢驗過程中發現有遺漏或偏差之處時，便據以修正之。最後總結探討與檢驗的結果，提出理論的主要觀點、理論模型及其設計原則。
主要的觀點是：（一）構造具可逆性；構造材料可回收，但不是以再生的方式。（二）構造具開放性；構造設計是為改變，不是為永恆。構造設計原則為：（一）組件形式及特性1. 構造材料或元素之「構成化」2. 元素或構件之形狀與機能單純化3. 界面物系統化4. 界面物之可拆解性（二）組合關係1. 元素與構件依環境層級與物質層級組合2. 接著方式以「點接」較「面接」為佳3. 構造內部相關位置及工序依材料及使用的壽命而定4. 接合方向「外接」較「內接」為佳，但視情況而定.

Changes of living environment are never at a stop. Construction- al professionals from designers, manufacturers to contractors have overlooked this situation for long. “Lasting forever” is their purpose rather than “change” Therefore, when run out or obsolete dispose is taken for granted rather than recycles and reuse. If change is required, the way to do it is time consuming and noise, pollution bothering neighbors, its waste can hardly be recycled and cause environmental problems, on the other hand, energy and resources for new construction are indispensable. This reflects the nowadays-global issue of sustainability. Capacity to change in a sustainable way is the main subject discussed in this paper, while constructional interface is the key to approach it.
The purpose of this study is, first, to challenge the constructional misleading paradigm and form new theory. Second, to develop methods and principles for implementation based on the formed theory. Third, to demonstrate the theoretical model and design a tool for performance assessment. Hopefully this tool can help evaluate construction design or new products, and check items for improvement.
The whole study proceeds in two directions; one is the exploration of the essential property of interface, including its function, contents and mechanism. The other is the finding of responding constructional indexes of autonomous spatial change and sustainable construction. Afterwards, synthesizing the two parts to form a theoretical model with description mode and evaluation mode. Typical constructional cases are taken for demonstration and standards for evaluation are established during the examination of the model.
The main theoretical points are two: one is Construction with Reversibility based on recycle but not by regeneration. And one is Construction with openness for change rather than fixed forever. Their design principles are briefly as follows.1. Compositional parts: Parts should be in simple shapes with separate functions, while interface objects be detachable and systemized.
2. Relationship of composition: Composing in the order of environmental levels , material levels and life times of material and use, while jointing by points and from outside.
