The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers on the status of specialty teaching and to explore the willingness, the sense of competence and the teaching attitudes of teachers on non-specialty related courses in the elementary schools of Kinmen County. Questionnaire survey was used as the research tool. The survey population was comprised of teachers in Kinmen County elementary schools, and the sample consisted of 326 individuals. Descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation were used to analyze the collected data. The data analysis of this study found that : 1.The ratio of teachers teaching specialty courses accounted for 43% of the total number of teaching periods per week. 2.The study sample shows that there were 95.7% of teachers that had experience teaching non-specialty class. Only 20.9 % of the sample consider themselves qualified for all courses except English in elementary schools. 3.The subject a teacher can be qualified for are Chinese , mathematics, social science .The subjects a teacher can not be qualified for are music, physical education and natural science. 4.Teachers with the sense of competence and teaching willingness belong to moderately low in non-specialty subjects, teaching attitude belong to moderately high . 5.Teachers of different ages and teaching years had significant differences in teach teaching willingness. 6.Teachers with different genders, ages, teaching years, current position and academic background had significant correlation in willingness to teach subject areas. 7.Teachers with different ages had significant differences in teaching attitude in non-specialty subjects. 8.Teachers with the sense of competence and teaching willing had significant correlation. 9.Teachers with the sense of competence and teaching attitude had significant negative correlation in non- specialty subject areas. 10.Teachers with the sense of competence and teaching attitude had not significant negative correlation in non- specialty subject area. In this study, we’ll discuss the comment to education authorities, school administration, teachers and future research.
