As video recording device becomes more mobilized and easier to handle, massive amount of documentaries were produced. The themes of documentaries are also more diverse, from documenting social structures to home videos, common memory of an ethnic group to micro life experience of a person. The themes about the handicapped ones also start to emerge because of that. These productions are different from the stereotypes that main stream media formed. They don’t only focus on the handicapped ones; they lead the audience to go deeper into the reality and imaginations of the handicapped ones.
Once the handicapped ones become the main characters of these documentaries, the existence of cameras (power) form push and pull phenomenon relationship with them in the process of videotaping. The camera becomes the only media to be seen. Me, as the photographer wrote an interactive image diary with them. This following text is to discuss about the particularity of the experience of filming the blinds and my introspection towards the process of filming.
