This study was aimed to investigate the difference in perceptions of “disciplinary attitude” between the teacher and parents. The research targets were the teacher and parents from a big elementary school in Taipei County. A self-made questionnaire included four dimensions, the method, the scope, the consideration factor, and the due process of the discipline, was used to gather the data. The total number of sample was 388, including 164 teachers and 224 parents. 330 samples were valid, which included 186 from parents and 144 from the teacher. The major findings of this study were concluded in the following: 1.The perceptions of the parents and the teacher to the disciplinary attitude will not change regardless of gender. 2.The perceptions of the parents to the disciplinary attitude will not change regardless of the numbers of children they have. 3.In the disciplinary method, (1)Less-experienced teachers accepted the disciplinary methods that set by the school than the experienced teachers;(2)Teachers who never have any children tended to agree with the disciplinary methods that set by the school than the teachers who have children on their own;(3)There was a significant difference between the perceptions of parents and teachers toward disciplinary attitude. More teachers accept the school disciplinary methods than the parents. 4.In the scope of discipline, there is a significant difference between the perceptions of parents and teachers. The disciplinary scopes from parents’ point view are larger than from teachers’. 5.In the disciplinary consideration, (1)There was no significant difference between the perceptions of parents and teachers. Both of the parents and teachers believe that it was better to understand students’ motives before the disciplinary behaviors were conducted;(2)The educational levels of parents affected the approval degree of the disciplinary consideration. 6.In the disciplinary procedures, (1)There were no significant differences between the parental and teachers’ perceptions of disciplinary procedures. Both of the parents and the teachers believed that teachers should follow the due process of discipline to conduct the disciplinary actions;(2)The educational levels of parents affected the acceptances of disciplinary procedures.
Based on these findings, suggestions to the school authority, the teacher, the parents, and the future study were presented.
