研究目標─探討臺灣社會資本與成人自評健康的關係。
資料來源─中央研究院於1996 年舉辦的「東亞社會國際比較調查研究」，為全國性代表樣本，樣本數為 2831 人。
研究設計─橫斷性次級資料分析，分析單位為個人。
測量指標─依變項為自評健康，包括自評身體健康與自評生活快樂，自變項為社會資本。社會資本由下列五個指標測量：心理面的社會資本測量人際信任程度、信任鄰居程度與人際互惠評價；行動面的社會資本測量社團參與數目與社區活動參與。
結果─人口學特性、個人社經地位與自評身體健康及自評生活快樂有顯著相關。然而在控制性別、年齡和個人社經地位（以教育程度和收入等級測量）後，結果仍然顯示社會資本越高，個人的自評健康越好。其中，人際互惠評價高者較人際互惠評價低者容易自評身體健康，勝算比為1.43（P<0.05）；參與社區活動者較未參與社區活動者容易自評身體健康，勝算比為1.50（P<0.01）。人際互惠評價中立者較人際互惠評價低者容易自評生活快樂，勝算比為1.51（P<0.01）；參加1-3種社團活動者較未參加社團活動者容易自評生活快樂，勝算比為1.36（P<0.05）。
結論─社會資本影響台灣成人的自評健康。

Objectives─To investigate the relationship of social capital and self-rated health among adults in Taiwan.
Data─“East Asian Social Survey” conducted in 1996 by Academia Sinica, a nationwide representative sample of 2,831 adults in Taiwan.
Design─Cross-sectional individual-level analysis.
Measures─Dependant variable was self-rated health, including self-rated physical health and happiness with life, independent variable was social capital. Social capital was measured by responses to five items: level of interpersonal trust, the degree of trust in neighbors, levels of perceived reciprocity in the social-psychological dimension; the number of clubs and associations that one participated and community activity’s participation in the action dimension.
Results─Demographic and individual SES variables were significantly associated with self-rated physical health and happiness with life. Even after adjustment for sex, age and SES (measured by education and income class), high social capital was significantly associated with self-rated good health. The odds ratio for self-rated good physical health associated with high reciprocity was 1.43 (P<0.05) compared with low reciprocity, the odds ratio for self-rated good physical health associated with participation in community was 1.50 (P<0.01) compared with none. The odds ratio for happiness with life associated with medium reciprocity was 1.51 (P<0.01) compared with low reciprocity, the odds ratio for happiness with life associated with medium group membership was 1.36 (P<0.05) compared with none group membership.
Conclusions─Self-rated health was affected by social capital among adults in Taiwan.
