俗話說：「龍生龍子，鳳生鳳兒」，本研究以父親職業與從業身份為出發點，分別探究兩個面向：（1）父親職業與從業身份在主觀上對子女教育期望的差異以及何種職業的父親較希望子女念一般大學、或是技職體系大學、或是研究所。（2）多數文獻以單一年度問卷調查資料為樣本，探討家庭社經地位對子女當下學業成就的影響。而本文則利用台灣教育長期追蹤資料庫（TEPS），著重於探討父親職業與從業身分是否影響子女未來教育成就，以瞭解社經地位高者是否就是其子女高成就；以及父母教育期望是否對子女學業成就具有長期的影響力。
本文以TEPS第一波2001年就讀國一與追蹤同樣本第四波2007年就讀高三之學生及其家長資料為研究對象，以迴歸模型實證分析探討上述兩項議題，研究結果顯示：
1. 父親職業為教師、公務人員、專業人員等，對子女教育期望較高，其子女學業成就也相對較參考組的買賣/服務人員為高；而若職業為生產/設備/體力工、其他職業亦或是暫無工作者等，則對子女教育期望相對較低，但其子女學業表現未必相對較低。
2. 父親從業身分為小雇主者，對子女教育期望較高，且其子女學業成就相對於受雇者高。而自營作業者、大雇主等從業身分者，其子女學業表現與受雇者相比則無顯著差異。
3. 在考慮職業別與從業身分之交互作用（交乘項）後，發現父親職業為專業人員、其他專業人員、事務/業務人員等職業，相對而言其子女學業成就較高。但隨著其從業身分不同，其對子女學業成就表現未必相對較高。
4. 最後，父母教育期望對子女學業成就具有長期的影響力，且教育期望越高，學業成就越高。

This paper first analyzes the effects of fathers’ occupations and classes on their educational expectations of children. We discuss the issue regarding which job contexts of fathers would want their children to get bachelor degrees from either comprehensive or vocational universities, or even to complete their master degrees. The second topic investigates the effects of fathers' occupations and classes on educational achievements of their children. We also evaluate the long-term influences of parents’ educational expectations on their children’s academic achievements.
Utilizing nationwide longitudinal data from Taiwan Education Panel Survey (TEPS), parental background information is paired with students’ performances traced when they are in the 7th grade and then in the 12th grade. The empirical results are as follows:
First, regarding fathers’ occupations, those fathers with occupations as teachers, civil servants or professionals have higher educational expectations for their children than those as market sales or service workers, who serve as the reference group. Their children also have higher academic achievements. Those fathers with occupations as blue-collar labors, mechanical workers or being unemployed have lower expectations for their children's education. However, their children’s academic achievements are not necessarily lower.
Regarding fathers’ classes as employers or employees, those fathers as employers with less than nine employees have higher expectations of their children's education. Their children also have better academic performances compared with those students with fathers as employees, who serve as the reference group. If the fathers are self-employed or employers with more than nine employees, their children's academic performances are not significantly different from the reference group.
After adding interaction terms to our regression models, the results indicates that for those fathers with occupations as professionals, other professionals, or clerks, their children have relatively higher academic achievements. Even so, for those above-mentioned occupations, due to different classes of practitioners, children’s academic performances are not necessarily higher relative to the others.
Finally, the educational expectations of parents on their children have long-term influences on children’s academic achievements. That is, higher parental expectations are associated with children’s higher academic achievements.
