GDP是目前分析國家經濟表現最被常使用的指標，然而GDP並不是唯一衡量國家財富水準的唯一方式。本研究嘗試藉由一些眾多變數來評估一個地區或國家的生活水準與財富變化，進而產生一些評估衡量幸福水準的指標，希望能幫助決策者取得有用的資訊，提高分析的能力。因此從一個財富觀點來比較義大利跟台灣這兩個擁有不同文化與歷史的國家與地區是一個非常有趣的探索與嘗試，本研究發現如果從經濟、健康、環境因素做綜合考量，台灣的表現竟然跟北義大利差不多。北義大利有較高的薪資與較佳的環境，但是台灣卻有較佳的治安與低失業率。本研究也同樣證實，除了因為南義大利的較低工業發展而在環境類別上南北無較大差異之外，南北義大利在其他類別的差距日趨擴大。

The GDP is currently the most utilized tool to measure the economic performance of a country. However it cannot be the only indicator to use to describe a country’s wealth. This research aims to: evaluate the quality of life of a specific territory through all the variable that may affect the quality of life, produce a measure of wealth and a set of indicators that allow to monitor changes in a country’s wealth, contribute to improve analysis ability of a specific territory and produce a set of useful information to make decisions on how to develop wealth furthermore. It is interesting to see how two countries completely different in culture and history perform from a wealth point of view. In fact, economic and health values, as well as environment conditions are very different between Italy and Taiwan, but when those values are merged together in one index, the final Taiwanese performance is approximately equal to Northern Italy’s performance. For example, while the latter can enjoy a cleaner environment and higher salaries, Taiwan is a much safer nation with a lower unemployment rate. An interesting result is also the huge gap between North and South of Italy. This is an additional confirmation with what it is known already, the south has been struggling to develop since many years and this gap keeps increasing on every sector, with the environment sector being the only exception due to the lower industrialization of the south.
