本研究以個人社群網絡與連繫之觀點探討（1）都市個人社群的基本組成與城鄉中可能的差異； (2)城鄉中的個人社群的支持機制特質與影響的要素為何；(3)城鄉地區社群關係的支持機制是否 有所不同。文獻部分回顧了都市個人社群理論的三個論點；社群失落論、社群繼存論與社群解放 論，以及過去相關的個人社群網絡與連繫的實證經驗研究。本研究所使用的資料為「台灣社會變 遷基本調查」1997第三期第三次的個人工具性網絡資料；研究結果發現，都市居民的個人社群網 絡關係與鄉村比較後的結果，傾向支持繼存論與解放論下的城鄉觀點，而不支持失落論看法；其 次，城鄉地區中影響支持授受的因素不盡相同，個人特質、網絡結構與連繫特徵於城鄉裡皆對不 同的社會支持類型產生不同作用；最後，城鄉居民的社群支持機制有所差異存在，鄉村居民的個 人社群關係屬較集中的複合式支持機制，支持來源較都市居民少，但提供的支持層面則較廣，而都市居民的個人社群關係則屬較分散的特殊支持機制，支持來源較都市居民多，但提供的支持層面則較鄉村居民低。

With reference to theories of community-lost, community-saved and community-liberated, this thesis examines the differences of personal networks, the different factors affecting personal social supports, and the differences of supportive mechanisms between urban and rural residents’ personal networks.

Using data collected by "Taiwan Social Change Surveys” in 1997 and with HLM as the major statistical procedure, this study analyzes jointly three levels of variables: those of the egos’, the ties’ and the networks’. The major findings show that both perspectives of community-saved and community-liberated are more confirmed, while theory of community-lost less so.

Finally, the supportive mechanisms in the urban communities are different from rural ones. The ties of the urban personal networks are more functionally specific and those of the rural areas are more functionally diverse. This explains the relative larger sizes of urban personal networks.
