近年來，家庭結構核心化及少子化的趨勢，使得家庭的成員數目銳減，家庭結構快速變遷之下，手足關係也因此逐漸受到重視。手足支持乃是成人社會支持的一項重要來源，關於手足支持研究的成果也累積的相當多，而這些研究亦發展出許多手足支持的模型，並討論影響手足支持的因素，然而，他們大都忽略了手足支持內容的重要性。本研究旨在探討成人手足支持的行為，將手足支持以「提供」與「接受」的「兩面性」觀點來瞭解手足支持的互動模式，並且以潛在類別分析的方式，將手足支持的內容納入研究範圍中，以探討手足支持的形式，並以多元邏輯迴歸驗證影響手足支持形式之因素，並且以手足情感為中介變項，探究手足情感對於手足支持形式影響之因素。本研究使用2001年「台灣地區社會變遷基本調查計畫」第四期第二次調查，在排除無手足之樣本後，實際納入分析樣本數共1,899位。
資料分析結果，主要的研究發現如下：
（一）本文以潛在類別分析分類手足支持形式，共有四種類型，分別為：全面支持型、基本支持型、意見支持型與無支持型；研究結果並發現：手足支持的交互性相當明顯，是一種互惠行為。
（二）影響手足情感與手足支持形式最關鍵且主要的因素為「手足連絡頻率」、「生命週期」與「生命階段」，而，「教育年數」與「手足結構」則沒有預期之影響。
（三）手足情感確實會是手足支持形式的中介變項，研究結果說明手足情感愈佳，愈會與其手足有支持的行為發生。
本文除了討論研究發現的意涵與限制外，並針對手足支持的方法與未來研究之方向提出建議。

In recent decades, due to nuclearization of the family structure and the trend of childless, the number of family members declined and the sibling relationship has come to its importance. Sibling support is a vital source of social support during adulthood, and there are substantial studies on this. However, the importance of the content of sibling support is being overlooked. This study aims to probe into the behavior of adult sibling support and takes a dual direction, i.e. supply vs. accept, perspective to explore the interaction of the support between siblings. The content of sibling support is included in the scope of research in order to discuss the forms of sibling support and validate the factors influencing sibling support. The data used in the study from the 2001 “Taiwan Social Change Survey.” The sample with no siblings were excluded .The total sample used for analysis is 1899 .

The major findings are as follows:
a). The Latent Class Analysis is used to class the form of sibling support .There are 4 types of sibling supports: full support, fundamental support, opinion support and none-support. It was also found that sibling support is a kind of reciprocal behavior.
b). The significant factors influencing sibling affections and the forms of sibling support are contact frequency, life cycle and life stage. Education and sibling structure show no significance as expected.
c). Sibling affections is an intervening variable of the forms of sibling support. Research shows that the better the sibling affections are, the more frequent behavior of sibling support occurs.
The implication and limits of this study are discussed. Suggestions are brought forth regarding the method of sibling support and future studies.
