本文使用台灣教育長期追蹤資料庫(TEPS)的第一波與第二波國中樣本資料,分析台灣中學教育的霸凌行為,是否會對學生的學習成果造成影響。而若真有影響,則進一步估計該影響的大小,並觀察是否達到經濟上的顯著性。首先可以注意到的是,在國中階段,約有7.1%至7.8%的學生曾遭人恐嚇,有4.0%至5.0%的學生曾被人勒索或搶奪物品,被性騷擾的學生則佔了約4%至4.6%。接著,經過普通最小平方法(OLS)的分析,發現以上三項霸凌相關變數與學生的學習成果不僅都有負向且顯著的影響,且其係數絕對值相對其他重要解釋變數,在實質上也有相當的經濟意義。然而,考量到普通最小平方法在資料上可能會面臨到內生性的問題,導致估計結果不具一致性,因此我們進一步加入工具變數(instrumental variable)的使用,以二階段最小平方法(TSLS)進行估計,得到相對可信的結果。此時各項霸凌相關變數的影響不僅是負向顯著,且其係數絕對值非常大,表示遭霸凌的經驗對學生的學習成果可能存在有劇烈地影響,唯此時的估計結果並非平均效果,而是針對特定樣本的局部效果,因此可能會有高估其效果的現象。本研究希望透過強調霸凌行為對學生影響的嚴重性,促使大眾重視此一問題,並能在後續的研究中,找出能夠降低霸凌事件發生機率的方法或制度。
