本文採用中央研究院1997年與2002年「台灣地區社會變遷基本調查計畫」的資料，並以過去文獻皆採用之MNL模型(Mutinomail Logit Model)及不受IIA條件(Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives)限制較具一般性的MNP模型(Mutinomail Probit Model)分析不同個人特質與家庭背景是否影響超額/不足教育發生率，並藉此比較兩模型估計結果。實証結果顯示，針對本研究採用之樣本，當IIA檢定結果不拒絕IIA限制條件，則兩模型各解釋變數對超額/不足教育邊際影響效果及個人平均發生超額/不足教育機率的預測值會非常接近。在邊際影響方面，相同處：「受大學快速擴張影響」、「擁有較多小孩子數」發生超額教育的機率「愈高」；「父母教育程度愈高」、「公部門就業者」、「現職年限愈長」發生超額教育的機率「愈低」。然而對所有顯著影響個人發生超額教育機率之因素，以「大學快速擴張」邊際機率位居之冠。此外，「已婚者」、「職前工作經驗愈長」發生不足教育的機率「愈高」，而「實際教育程度愈高」發生不足教育的機率「愈低」。相異處：以MNL模型估計，發現「兼職工作者」發生超額教育機率「較高」，但在MNP模型下不顯著.。在個人平均發生超額/不足教育機率的預測值方面，MNL及MNP模型預測平均個人發生超額教育機率皆大於適度與不足教育，顯示台灣勞動市場存在嚴重「高教低就」人力資源低度利用的現象。
另外有別於過去在討論個人發生超額教育機率議題的文獻，其皆只採用有工作者樣本，在此本文茲將無工作者樣本納入考量，並利用考慮與未考慮樣本選擇(sample selection) Probit模型相互比較。實証結果顯示，個人發生超額教育的機率會顯著受到個人選擇工作或不工作的影響，故在此若未考慮「工作與不工作選擇」，即未納入無工作者資料，則可能會發生估計偏誤。

Using the data sets” Taiwan Social Change Survey ” of 1997 and 2002 , this thesis first uses the conventional MNL model(Multinomial Logit Model) and the general MNP model(Multinomial Probit Model) without IIA(Independence of Irrelevant Alternatives) restrictions to analyze the impact of different individual characteristics and family background on the incidence of over/undereducation and compares the empirical results of these two models. The empirical results show that the IIA restrictions are not rejected, the marginal effects of the explanatory variables of the two models on the incidence of over / undereducation and the average predicted probability of over / undereducation are very similar. As far as the marginal effect is concerned, both models show that the variable ” rapid expansion of universities ” has the highest marginal probability among all factors which have significant impact on overeducation by both models.
Unlike the existing literature which uses only the sample of workers in studying, the incidence of overeducation, this thesis further takes into account the role of non-workers and compares the results estimated by both the Probit Model and Probit Model with Sample Selection. The empirical results indicate that the incidence of overeducation is significantly influenced by the individual’s choice to work or not. Therefore, the estimated cofficients will be inconsistent if the role of non-workers is ignored.
