一般而言，家庭是所有人最早接觸的團體性組織之一，在許多不同領域的研究中，包括社會學、心理學、生物學及經濟學等領域，皆指出不同的家庭環境會造就孩子不同的人格特質，而屬於家庭環境因素的出生排行影響效果上，更是許多領域學者欲探討的議題之一；然而，在許多領域針對出生排行效果的研究成果上，並無一致的看法。
　　因此，本文欲利用臺灣華人家庭動態資料庫(Panel Study of Family Dynamics, PSFD)的數據，並配合Hausman-Taylor model進行出生排行效果的相關實證分析，以了解臺灣的勞工在勞動市場上的表現是否會受到出生排行效果的影響，另外也加入勞工自身的特質及就業特徵等相關變數進行討論。
　　實證結果顯示：採用有效分離家庭規模與絕對排行兩種效果之相對排行與排行指標作為排行變數時，發現相對排行與排行指標對薪資皆為顯著負相關，即表示臺灣在1930-1960年代出生之勞工樣本，出生排行次序越高(越晚出生)時，其薪資水準會較兄長或姊姊低。然而，本文的實證結果之排行效果方向亦與Black et al. (2005)及Kantaveric and Mechoulan(2006)有相似的結論。另外，研究亦發現當排行變數為排行指標時，排行是可能存在U型效果，即排行最前面與最後者其薪資高過排行中間者；除此之外，研究也發現排行對於薪資的負效果，在男女性別之間是存在差異，女性排行的邊際效果大於男性。
