It is for sure that there are some inevitable risks for any driver driving on the roadway and the factors are composed of people, vehicle, road and environment. This study evaluates the effect of traffic sign design and configuration for drivers by human factors engineering. The impact factors of traffic sign configuration are abstracted from the standards and previous studies to create a questionnaire. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to conduct the questionnaire. Besides, the indoor experiments are conducted to investigate the effect of traffic sign configuration on driver’s cognition time. The results of experiments are compared with questionnaire. Finally, the study will combine the traffic sign configuration and environment factors to carry out the outdoor experiments. This study also applied Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) to analyze the results of experiments in order to determine the impact of each factors for drivers.
