As Taiwan is surrounded by the sea with a narrow terrain and large tidal range, some fishing ports will eventually face problems of serious siltation and low utilization rate. In the point of view, the government has promoted the concept of sightseeing and leisure fishing ports. The selected fishing ports suitable for transformation development. Due to the office hours of two days off weekly, people are interesting in sightseeing and traveling increasing significantly. The seashores and forests are among their most popular tourist destinations. Therefore, we focused on the sightseeing, leisure and blue way features of recreational fishery for a practical design.
The base of the design is located in the Waipu Fishing Port of Houlong Town, Miaoli County and its surrounding environment. The purpose of this design is as follows: (1) re-planning of the idle space of the fishing port, and observing the natural environment in the port area to extend the blue-green belt into the space of the port area; (2) understanding the cultural industry, the natural environment and the coastal ecological atmosphere, and promoting the sustainable development of the environment; (3) understanding how the blue way influence the relationship between the port and city; (4) practical design for the waterfront space and sea-fishing leisure facilities. The design method is through literature analysis and field investigation to understand the history of the Waipu Fishing Port, human environment, space needs of the main ethnic groups and the local life style, and to explore the configuration of the surrounding environment space incorporated into the base.
The study focused on the importance of the transformation of idle fishing ports to Taiwan's tourism, and how to properly solve the problems of the seawall's impact on the coast and the destruction of the ecology. The existing methods and techniques are used to restore the beach, thereby bringing vitality and economic value to the local area. With the re-use of idle space as a starting point, the existing hardware of the port area will be properly designed for the re-use and to link the moving lines in the base, the characteristics of the stone weirs will be used as a local form of education and sightseeing, and finally the waterfront space and open space will be used as the resting space for visitors and local residents.
