因為自由曲面加工技術的成熟，1996年Canon公司提出以自由曲面稜鏡製作頭戴型顯示器之後，成像品質因為使用了自由曲面而提升，再配合新的顯示元件，單晶矽液晶的出現，使頭戴型顯示器的設計有了重大的突破。許多公司也先後研發了許多頭戴型顯示產品，但是系統的性能仍然需要改良。
在本論文中，首先大略了解早期的頭戴型顯式器的架構，以及自由曲面最大的優點。而論文的設計目標是將某一特定頭戴型顯示系統視角擴大，並維持、進而提升成像品質。因此先選定一個市面上，使用自由曲面稜鏡的頭戴型顯示器當做範例，使用光學軟體CodeV，對範例進行分析與模擬，確認其成像品質與光學架構可行性，再訂出新的顯示元件、視角、等等系統規格，在軟體中對自由曲面稜鏡的三個面做優化設計，優化與分析的結果與範例做對照，確認在實際應用上的品質。最後我們成功地擴大視角，並改進了系統性能。

Because of the fabrication of the Free-Form-Surface was going to be mature, the Head Mounted Display optical system composed of FFS prism was presented by Canon Inc. in 1996. Optical performance was improved by using the FFS. Then a new display device, Liquid Crystal On Silicon, appeared, the design of the HMD was greatly developed.
In this thesis, we make a product as the model and then analyze the model by CodeV, make sure that its practicability. After that, we setup a new specification; optimize the system in accordance with three surface on the FFS prism. Comparing with the original model, we successfully enlarge the Field of View and improve the optical performance.
